Shiseido has developped Carton box possessing 10 faces for the distribution of some of their products of household goods. The carton box has the shape with every edge at the corner cut, and as a result of possessing more vertical axis, the box BCT has been enhanced.
As a result, in order to have the same performance of box rigidity, thickness of the board can be thinner, while at the same time, optimisation could be realised to load the products inside of the box as much as possible without the unused space contributing the efficiency of logistics.

Now that the cost relevant to the materials and fuel has been on the upward trend, the application of the box could contribute to the cost performance by JPY80,000,000.- annually. (550 000,00 €)

Case erecting machine and Filling machine are installed in their Kuki plant (Kuki City, Saitama-Pref.) with the total investment of approximately JPY 250,000,000.- for the application of the boxes for their refilling purpose pouches of "TSUBAKI" and "SUPER MILD" shampoo. Depending on the efficient effect to be contributed by the application, they are considering expanding their application for the other products of "Moisture Hair Pack" and "Sea Breeze" shampoo by March,2009.

The box has the shape of Octagon seen from the top possessing eight vertical axis. As compared with conventional carton boxes, the box rigidity is enhanced due to the additional four vertical axis, which contributes to making the thickness of the box to be thinner by 10% to 5mm than their previous boxes. Considering this matter, they are expecting to realise the cost reduction by JPY 29,000,000.-for half a year by March,2009.

Taking advantage of the enhanced BCT, they can optimise the products loading efficiency inside of the box as much as possible without any unused space. The total number of the products to be loaded inside of the box is 18, which remains unchanged from the previous box.
However, size of the box has been downsized by 25% contributing to the optimisation of the total number of carton boxes to be loaded on a pallet to have increased by 1.5 times to 48 boxes in total.

In the previous boxes, due to its weakness in rigidity, they had no other alternatives but to insert the partition inside in order to reinforce the rigidity of the box.

From the point of view for the total number of trucks used for the logistics, the number could be reduced by 30% contributing to the cost performance in this regard as well of approximately JPY 12,000,000.- by March,2009. With the total cost performance combining the cost reduction in corrugated board materials as well as the logistics would amount to approximately JPY 80,000,000.- annually.

Shiseido has experienced the cost increase approximately JPY 1,000,000,000.-  relevant to the increase of raw materials as well as the packaging materials at the closing of fiscal year of 2007, which tendency will remain unchanged for the fiscal year of 2008 as well with the cost increase amounting approximately of JPY a few 100 million.
